Title: In Praise of Mary

Text: Luke 10:38-42

1. Are you someone who likes to stay busy, or do you naturally slow down and take things in?

2. When have you found yourself choosing between getting something done and simply being present with someone? What choice did you make? Did you regret it?

3. What image, story, or idea from the message, "The Better Part? In Praise of Mary," stayed with you this week? What do you want to discuss?

4. Read Luke 10:38-42. As you read, pay close attention to what Martha and Mary are each doing. What differences do you notice in the way each sister responds to Jesus?

5. What does Jesus say about Mary's choice? What do you think he means by that? Why might Mary's choice have mattered in that particular moment?

6. This story has often been read as if we have to choose between being like Mary or being like Martha. Do you think Jesus is making that kind of comparison, or could something else be happening in this conversation?

7. Read John 11:28-37. What does this story reveal about Mary's relationship with Jesus? What qualities do you notice in her?

8. Read Psalm 27:4. What stands out to you about the psalmist's "one thing"? What does that teach us about the heart of discipleship?

9. Where in your life might God be inviting you to pause, listen, or be fully present this week?

10. How can this group pray for you as you seek to make space for God's presence this week?
