Title: Raise the Roof
Primary Text: Mark 2:1-12
1. What's one school supply, teacher, or back-to-school tradition that brings a favorite memory to mind?
2. When life feels difficult, are you more likely to ask for help, try to figure it out on your own, or wait until someone notices you need support? Why?
3. What image, story, or idea from the message, Raise the Roof, has stayed with you this week?
4. Read Mark 2:1-12. What details or characters stand out to you? What do you notice about the friends, the crowd, Jesus, and the man on the mat?
5. Jesus forgives the man before healing him physically. Why do you think Jesus chose that order? What might Mark be teaching us about healing and wholeness?
6. The friends were willing to inconvenience themselves—and several other people—to help someone they loved. What does this story teach us about faith, persistence, and the role of community?
7. Read Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. What does the writer say about the benefits of togetherness? Where have you experienced that truth in your own life? What makes it difficult to let others help us? What keeps us from helping others?
8. Read Galatians 6:2. What does Paul say about burdens? What are we called to do with them? How is bearing someone's burden different from fixing their problems? What might this look like in our church or neighborhood today?
9. Who in your life could use a good friend this week? What is one practical way you could help remove a barrier, offer encouragement, or simply show up for them?
10. How can this group pray for you this week? Where do you need others to help carry a burden or remind you that you're not alone?
