Title: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor

Text: Psalm 37:1-11

1. As a child, were you the kind of person who followed the rules closely, questioned them, or pushed against them? How often were you likely to protest, "That's not fair!" when you were young?

2. Can you remember a time when you witnessed something unjust or hurtful and had to decide whether or not to say or do something? What made that moment difficult? How did you handle it?

3. What image, phrase, or story from the message "Un-Bound: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" stayed with you? What did it make you want to discuss?

4. Read Psalm 37:1-11 aloud. What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage? What does the psalm seem to say about how faithful people respond when wrongdoing harms a community?

5. Which parts of this scripture feel comforting or hopeful to you, and which parts feel frustrating, difficult, or challenging to trust when injustice seems to continue unchecked?

6. The message invited us to think about courage in the face of injustice and oppression. What do you think helps ordinary people find the strength to resist what is wrong rather than simply accept it?

7. Read Micah 6:8 aloud. The prophet says that God requires us to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. How might the combination of these practices keep the pursuit of justice from becoming harsh, self-righteous, or hopeless?

8. Read Romans 12:21 aloud. "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." What might overcoming evil with good actually look like in our communities today when faced with prejudice, cruelty, or exclusion?

9. Where might God be calling you to practice courage, compassion, or justice in some tangible way this week?

10. How might your group pray for you this week as you seek to stand for what is right with both courage and grace?
