Text: Isaiah 66:12-13

1. When you need comfort, what's your first move? Are you more likely to seek out people, quiet, distraction, food, prayer, or something else?

2. Who has been a steady source of comfort or safety in your life? What makes that person feel trustworthy to you?

3. What image, phrase, or story from the message "Affirming: God" stayed with you? What did it make you want to discuss?

4. Read Isaiah 66:12-13 aloud. What words or images do you notice in this passage? What stands out about the way God is described here? How does this picture of God make you feel?

5. What do these images suggest about the kind of relationship God desires to have with people?

6. For those who grew up with different pictures of God, how does this passage affirm, complement, challenge, or complicate what you were taught?

7. Read 1 John 4:7-8 aloud. If scripture tells us not simply that God loves, but that God is love, what difference does that make in the way we think about God's character? How might that reshape the way we relate to God personally?

8. Read Psalm 139:7-10 aloud. What does this passage suggest about God's nearness and presence? In what ways does our community of faith express the belief that God is always near, always present, and always caring?

9. Where in your life do you most need to remember that God is compassionate, present, and trustworthy? What part of your life might you entrust to God's care once again?
