Title: Longing

Text: Song of Solomon 3:1-4, 5:2-8

1. Have you ever gone looking for something in the middle of the night: a lost item, a restless thought, a hungry kid? Why couldn't it wait until morning?

2. When have you wanted something deeply, perhaps connection, clarity, rest or direction, but it felt just out of reach? What was that like? How did you cope?

3. In the message Love, Actually: Longing, what stood out to you most? Did an idea, image or story help you think differently about longing or desire?

4. Read Song of Solomon 3:1-4 and 5:2-8. What details or images catch your attention? What do you notice about searching, waiting or not being able to find what is desired? Why might these details matter? What do they communicate?

5. These passages include searching and not finding, and then finally finding again. What do you notice about that movement? What might it reveal about longing and love . . . and life itself?

6. Longing can feel uncomfortable or even painful. Why do you think longing is such an important part of love and relationship? Why are we so all-too-often embarrassed by it?

7. Read Psalm 63:1. "My soul thirsts for you." What does this image of thirst tell us about longing for God? When have you experienced something like that?

8. Read Romans 8:22-25. Creation itself is described as groaning in longing. What do these verses suggest about longing as part of the human experience? How might this shape the way we understand our own desires?

9. Longing often points us toward what matters most. Where in your life might God be inviting you to pay attention to a deep desire rather than ignore or push it away?

10. How might this group pray for you as you sit with longing or seek what your heart is reaching for in the days ahead?
