Text: Song of Solomon 2:8-14
1. What's something that easily grabs your attention: a notification, a hobby, a person, a task?
2. When do you feel most present and attentive in your life? What helps you get there?
3. In the message Love, Actually: Attention, what stood out to you most? Did an idea, image or story help you think differently about attention, love or presence?
4. Read Song of Solomon 2:8-14. What images or moments catch your attention? What do you notice about movement, voice or invitation in this passage? Why might these details matter? What do they communicate?
5. In this passage, one voice calls out and invites the other to "come away." What do you notice about that invitation? What might it reveal about attention and focus in all kinds of relationships?
6. This passage is full of noticing: voice, presence, timing, beauty. Why do you think attention is such an important part of love and relationship? Can we grow in our ability to pay attention? How?
7. Read Psalm 46:10. "Be still, and know that I am God." What do these words suggest about attention and awareness of God? When do you find it most difficult to be still? Why?
8. Read Luke 10:38-42. Martha is often criticized for being distracted, while Mary is praised for giving her attention to Jesus. In what ways are both women paying attention? What are the benefits of each kind of focus?
9. Attention shapes what we experience. Where might God be inviting you to be more present or attentive this week, to God, to others AND to yourself?
10. How might this group pray for you as you seek to be more present and attentive in the days ahead?
