1. When you hear the word religion, what's the first reaction you notice in yourself? Is it positive, negative, curious, weary?
2. Have you ever encountered a moment when faith felt deeply life-giving? Deeply frustrating? How did you respond?
3. What stood out to you in the message titled Read That Again: Woe to Religion? How does learning more about Bishop James S. Thomas shape the way you hear Jesus' words in this passage?
4. Read Matthew 23:23-28. What phrases or images catch your attention as Jesus critiques religious leadership and practice?
5. Jesus names justice, mercy and faithfulness as "the weightier matters of the law." How do these priorities challenge narrow or performative versions of religion? Where do you see religious practice that embraces Jesus' interpretation?
